Jews: How do I enter a Yeshiva good if not raised religious?
I want to be a yeshiva student and study in a Yeshiva Chassidic but was not raised religious, Is this a problem? I can not read Hebrew well. Can I enter a Yeshiva? I am a teenager.
Hey there, Daniel – as a fellow returnees to Jewish observance, also named Daniel, I can sympathize. The fact of the matter is that what you are experiencing is not so rare today. A lot of Jews, were not raised religious, are in search of spirituality, and of those, some are lucky enough to find their way back to the faith of their ancestors, ie the Torah. I am curious why you want to go to a yeshiva chasidishe in particular. Do you know what type you are looking for chasidus learn? Or simply means that you will learn in a place where people wear black (or skin) hats? I mean, they tend to differ in some respects chasidishe of "mainstream", but is technically Chassidic Chabad Lubavitch, which is a very movement-oriented extension, and have a lot of programs (including a couple of Yeshiva) that might appeal to you. It is not my thing, but hey, it takes all kinds, you know? And Chabad long a great job. Someone who comes from a background not choose to be attentive and Attentive Torah later in life is usually called a "Baal teshuva" (literally "master of return", "Ba'al tshuvah "is the feminine form). And the Baal teshuva movement has really been taken up steam in recent decades, with record numbers of Jews to meet with its spiritual heritage worldwide. I have heard that the biggest movement of BT is actually in South Africa, but as it were, that the hand of the information is the second. I myself became an observer in my teens (I'm in the middle of twenties now) and I'm from the U.S. Southwest. The important thing to consider is that in response to what is happening in the Jewish people, now there are a lot of great learning and Yeshiva programs to suit the needs of ba'alei tshuvah. Feel to contact me if you want more information about them. I recommend starting by learning to read Hebrew, attend some conferences where you live, and then possibly taking into account a short program term, and depending on the course of things, a Yeshiva education could well be in the future. The first step is to contact your LOR (Local Orthodox Rabbi). I'm sure it will be more than happy to help, and also available with both you and your people, we hope to minimize any kind of tension that can arise if you decide to be more attentive (believe me, it happens – and it is better to have a rabbi to explain that you're not crazy, and that Orthodox Judaism is not a cult, etc.). I hope this information is useful, and again, for more specific information on apprenticeship programs, both in the U.S. and Israel, do not hesitate to contact me directly.

To prepare for my Bar Mitzvah, I would like to make a movie with the text of the portion to the sound of someone singing it. This helps me a lot, since it takes both audio and video for me to learn well. However, I can’t find the Hebrew text of my portion (Vaethanan) anywhere on the web. Where could I get it?
V’etchanan is found in Deuteronomy 3:23-7:11
You can fin the text online starting here: http://www.mechon-mamre.org/p/pt/pt0503.htm and continuing on subsequent pages. It also contains audio on a chapter-by-chapter basis (read, not sung with the cantillation – hopefully you know enough Hebrew to follow along with the text?) – I didn’t listen the whole way through, but your parsha will begin a few minutes in, with the word “v’etchanan”
To listen to someone singing the Torah parsha, I found audio files here: http://torahreading.dafyomireview.com/cd.php?cdall=torah-ashkenaz — scroll down to where it says “05-Dvarim-02″ (there are three files.)

Modern Hebrew is a historical language that attracts many people to study for several reasons. While modern Hebrew is somewhat different from the historical language known to many as the language of the Hebrew Bible, learning modern Hebrew means that despite the events and changes that have occurred, however, you'll be learning a language that has been used since biblical times. If you are a native English speaker, you may encounter some difficulties associated with learning this beautiful language, simply because of how different it is from modern English.
Before you can begin studying Hebrew, you need to know a little about the language you are learning. Today, 6 million people speak Hebrew, with most of these people living in Israel. The language almost completely disappeared in everyday speech between the ages IX and nineteenth centuries due to lack of use. While the language used by Jews during prayer and Torah study is not commonly spoken outside the home and synagogue. In the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the Zionists worked to restore the language, making the modern Hebrew the official language of the newly formed State of Israel. Today, modern Hebrew closely resembles the variety of the Bible, with subtle changes to language of work in today's society.
Learning Hebrew usually starts with learning Hebrew alphabet. The Hebrew alphabet contains 22 letters, all of which are consonants. When the vowels should be represented, which is rarely written in Hebrew, which is represented by points and lines known as nikkud. There is no upper or lower case letters, but some of them have a different form when they reach the end of a word. People Hebrew learners often struggle with the fact that the language is written from right to left rather than left to right. The lack of vocal writing poses problems many new students.
As with most languages, the best way to learn modern Hebrew is both the study of grammar and syntax of the language and practice speaking and listening to spoken language. You can study grammar until you know everything perfectly, but if you do not learn to pronounce the language correctly, you will not be able to function in a situation where you are required to speak the language. Just the study of Hebrew grammar is not enough. You need the appearance of the conversation as well.
In fact, the learning component of Hebrew conversation is almost more important than learning the grammar of the language, like most situations where you have to know the language are required to speak or understand.
As you are looking for something to help you achieve your goal of learning Hebrew, find a course that will give you the opportunity to speak Hebrew and listening to speech. This should be combined with some grammar instruction, but immersion in the spoken language is one of the best ways to learn a complex language and modern Hebrew. Once you can speak the language with some confidence, it is much easier learn to read and write well. About the Author:

Mycology is the study of fungi and their biochemical and genetic properties and its applications to human life, such as medicines, food, and the dangers may present as infections. This includes not only mushrooms but also fungi and bacteria. Phytopathology is the study of plant diseases, emerged from mycology and these two are very closely related because often the molds and other fungi attack plants to survive.
It has been shown that DNA of fungi is much more like humans have DNA that rather than simply as the DNA found in plants. This is not only interesting in the aspect of fungi see absolutely nothing to do with us, but also creates some problems in research and issues that relate to the health of humans. It has been speculated that since we now have the DNA of mold that can be said to determine what level of risk they may pose to humans and other life forms. We have also been able that approximately a quarter of the human population has been genetically likely to have a sensitivity to mold.
People say that mold and other types of fungi have recently become a problem, but in reality the fact is that we do not realize that mold has been a problem since Biblical times. It is mentioned very openly in the book of Leviticus in the Talmud Torah. Moses provides instruction on how to identify and treat infections of mold in the home.
Mold growth in the home are a serious problem and most people do not realize they can become seriously ill, permanent disability or even killed because of these contamination. Not enough mycologists and the general consensus is that mold is not studied enough, given the wide range of health effects that may result from exposure to it.
To become a mycologist, one must study for years and involve both laboratory and field work with fungi in hospitals, industry, food, and universities. Mycologists are often found working in industries such as infection control, management in hospitals and in some pharmaceutical industries.
There are several schools that can be done in the United States. The universities of Texas and Minnesota offer some excellent programs. In Canada School in Toronto also has a good program mycology. There are some schools, however, that these programs are falling due to lack of interest in them.
